Or this Pitchfork review, which mentions Austin Powers and Dairy Milk bars ( ). Captain Beefheart: great Tom Jones, a ridiculous "professional perma-tanned ladies' man." ( ) I suspect the writer is Canadian, since she finds the singer to be small potatoes next to the giants' Mac Demarco and Dan Bejar. The absolutely hilarious thing about this P4k review is that it accuses this singer (a "silly little man") of engaging in clichés. Look at this Pitchfork review it manages to mention all of these things: the Queen, the Union Jack, Austin Powers, James Bond/007, the London Olympics, and every major UK artist you can think of (including Mick Jagger, the Beatles, and Oasis). I think I prefer P4k ignoring UK albums altogether, rather than reading their smarmy condescending shtick. I mean, Gorillaz sells without them and are well-loved the world over Wolf Alice's album is #1 and their Metacritic rating is an unprecedented 96%. Maybe that's why they didn't publish reviews of Gorillaz and Wolf Alice: their ratings were too low, the writers too dismissive and condescending, and given that they're incapable of writing about UK music, they just didn't publish them, knowing that it would only anger most people. On the other hand, maybe P4k's just acknowledging they have a huge UK-sized problem. The UK has the music and global reach, the NME had the right writers and critics, but the website really let the side down. The NME was perfectly placed to do so, and their website has always been shite. I get really bitter about Pitchfork, but honestly, it's not their fault that no UK music websites have been able to step up and compete. I mean, they didn't even bother reviewing Gorillaz' Song Machine either. I said the same thing and was downvoted to oblivion for suggesting they have a huge American bias and a disdain for UK indie/rock, except for a few exceptions.
